SEAFOOD EXPO GLOBAL/SEAFOOD PROCESSING GLOBAL LARGER THAN EVER

Brussels, Belgium (15 June 2018) – Diversified Communications, the producer of the 26th edition of Seafood Expo Global and 20th edition of Seafood Processing Global that took place 24-26 April in Brussels, Belgium, is pleased to report that the event broke attendance, exhibiting company and exhibit space records, making it the largest ever in the event’s twenty-six year history.

A total of 29,130 buyers and sellers were in attendance from 152 countries. 1,946 exhibiting companies came from 78 countries to showcase their seafood products, equipment and services. The total exhibitor space occupied in the BRUSSELS EXPO was 39,322 net square meters, including 72 national and regional pavilions from Argentina to Vietnam.

Seafood professionals in attendance noticed the growth on the exhibit hall floors.  “People are standing all over the aisles. It’s been good to see existing customers to strengthen business, and new customers to make new relationships,” said a Director with GODACO Seafood JSC.

“It is incredible to see this event growing year over year,” said Liz Plizga, Group Vice President for Diversified Communications.  “Not only have we expanded the event in terms of exhibit space, but we again reached a record high in the number of visitors who came to the event.  This shows the ongoing importance of the business value that both buyers and suppliers in the global seafood industry find in this event.”

“The best part of the event is we can meet all our buyers and sellers from various countries under one roof.  It is truly a global event,” commented an executive from Marine Harvest (India).

“This was my first time at the seafood expo,” said a private label buyer from Axfood Sverige (Sweden), one of the 510 Key Buyers who attended the event this year.  “It was easy to find all my key suppliers at the same time. I had over 20 meetings and had time to look for new business opportunities.”

Awards were presented for the Seafood Excellence Global awards competition that recognizes the best seafood products at the exposition in several categories.  On 24 April, the company Labeyrie Fine Foods of Saint-Geours-de-Maremne, France, won the Best Retail Product category with its entry, Christmas Smoked Salmon.  J.C. David of Boulogne-sur-Mer, France, won the grand prize for the Best HORECA (hotel/restaurant/catering) Product for its White Smoked Haddock.

Five special Seafood Excellence Global awards were also given.  The special award for Health and Nutrition went to Globe Export for its product, Frozen Spirulina Pearls.  Open Blue won the award for Convenience for its Frozen IVP Sashimi-Grade Cobia Fillet.  The Innovation award was given to Surimi Lasagne Sheets from Viciunai Group.  Clearwater Seafoods was presented the award for Retail Packaging for its Bacon Wrapped Scallops, and Iceland’ Finest won the Seafood Product Line award for Iceland’s Finest Starters.

In the competition, a panel of industry experts in seafood products judged 40 finalists on their taste, originality, practicality, innovation, packaging, market potential and nutritional aspects.  The full list of award winners can be found online at: https://www.seafoodexpo.com/global/2018-seafood-excellence-global-awards-winners/
